HOW SSVP OMAHA SERVES:
Since 1868, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Omaha has provided direct aid - including food, clothing, homelessness prevention, homeless outreach and disaster recovery - to struggling families and individuals in our community.
FOOD PANTRYThe Society's very large downtown Food Pantry - along with the food pantries at a number of our SSVP parish conferences - are crucial in helping feed struggling Omaha neighbors in need, serving more than 36,000 individuals and families each year. The Society's main Food Pantry, located at 2101 Leavenworth Street, addresses food insecurity by providing non-perishable food, fresh and frozen produce, bread, dairy, and proteins, with our volunteer “Companions” escorting neighbors through the pantry, ensuring they are able to obtain the food they need to feed their families

CLOTHING & PERSONAL CARE ITEMS FOR THE HOMELESSEvery weekday, volunteers and staff with our Holy Family Center's “Closet Door” distribute clothing and personal care items & toiletries, free of charge, to our homeless neighbors. Providing thousands of visits each year, our dedicated Closet Door representatives distribute a large variety of such items to homeless men, women which includes - although is not limited to: jeans/pants, shirts, sweatshirts/hoodies, underwear, socks, shoes, boots, coats, gloves/mittens, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, fuel, duffle bags/backpacks, razors, nail clippers, shampoo, lotion, feminine hygiene products and deodorant.

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESSEach weekday, dedicated Society of St. Vincent de Paul Omaha volunteers prepare an average of 250 sack lunches to feed our neighbors in need in downtown Omaha. These lunches are provided free of charge to the homeless at the Society's Holy Family Center at 1715 Izard Street, and to families and individuals who live in nearby low-income housing. To many of our neighbors, this lunch is the only true meal they will have on any given day. The material donation needs for this program consist of: small brown paper bags, "sandwich"-size plastic baggies (e.g. Ziploc), nitrile, latex-free disposable gloves, mayonnaise, deli meat, cheese, "salties" in bulk or individual packages (e.g. chips, pretzels, popcorn, etc.), pre-packaged or home-prepared sweets (e.g. cookies, bars, etc.), fresh or individual pre-packaged fruit, bulk or individual pre-packaged vegetables and 12-ounce bottles of water.

DISASTER CASE MANAGEMENTWhen natural disasters strike, SSVP Omaha provides both immediate assistance and long-term case management support. Services include financial aid, food, clothing, furniture, household items, and resource coordination. As a member of the Tri-County Long Term Recovery Group, we assist families and businesses across Douglas, Sarpy, and Washington Counties. Our Certified Disaster Case Managers guide survivors through the entire process, often for over a year, helping them reach a "new normal."

THRIFT STORESAt SSVP Omaha, our thrift stores are more than just places to shop – they’re community lifelines. Offering quality clothing, furniture, home décor, and more at deeply discounted prices, they help families stretch limited budgets and get the most value from every dollar. Behind the scenes, our dedicated thrift store management team works hand-in-hand with SSVP Conferences, Vincentians, and the District Office to ensure that our mission reaches everyone who needs it. Through these partnerships, neighbors in need can receive free vouchers to access essential – and often higher-cost – household items. We also provide similar support for unhoused neighbors moving into permanent housing, helping them furnish their new apartments with furniture, bedding, and other necessities.
