Daniel comes to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, with a zeal to help those underserved in our Omaha community through the Society’s marketing and development projects. Originally from Omaha, Daniel made the short trip southwest to Lincoln for his college years where he graduated with an Advertising & Public Relations degree, as well as a degree in Sociology. He has since returned to Omaha to live in Blackstone with his partner and their two cats.
Throughout his Sociology education, Daniel learned about the various socio-economic factors that play into poverty and homelessness - many of which are outside the control of individuals. It was through this education, and his time spent with the local homeless neighbors in Lincoln that Daniel realized that homelessness can happen to nearly anybody - through no fault of their own. After this, Daniel grew a real fire for finding a position that would allow him to help the impoverished with his own unique set of skills. During this time, Daniel’s sister had begun working with multiple non-profits around Omaha that all served to help find housing for Omaha’s homeless and under-housed neighbors. Piquing his interest in the non-profit sector, and after seeing the good his sister was able to accomplish through her efforts, Daniel took to finding a non-profit organization that aligned well with his ideals. After learning about the SSVP Development and Marketing position, Daniel jumped at the opportunity to apply and was elated to hear Tim’s and Jill’s passion for helping the homeless. It was then that Daniel knew he found the right fit. Before working at SSVP, Daniel had worked as an assistant on a sociology/psychology research endeavor, while leasing apartments and working at a retail store. While none of these positions ended up being his passion, he was able to learn and grow a lot from each of these experiences, and he’s happy to have worked these roles as they ultimately helped him end up at SSVP. After starting in July of 2023, Daniel has been updating and maintaining SSVP’s social media accounts and website, assisting in office and event coordination, working with Tim on developmental projects, and being a general helping hand and smile for anything that might be needed around the office. Since starting, Daniel has only become more passionate about helping the homeless and impoverished neighbors of Omaha. Outside of work, Daniel likes to fish, take walks, watch scary movies, spend time with his two nephews, and play board games and video games with his friends. Most of all though, Daniel loves to simply enjoy spending time with his partner Abi, and their two cats, Trajan and Cleo. |
