About Us
Why lend your support to our SSVP Omaha Thrift Stores?
Fund our SSVP Omaha mission – Our SSVP Omaha thrift stores are a critical source of funding that helps sustain our programs that serve Omaha’s poor and homeless individuals and families. All net revenue from thrift stores’ sales helps fund our services to neighbors in need.
Eco-friendly – Our thrift stores do their part in saving our environment by extending the lives of products and limiting waste in landfills. Donated items that come to our stores are repurposed and sold. Beyond being sold in our stores, some donated items are used in our coat giveaways, given to the homeless through our Closet Door program, or given to those in need through our SSVP conferences. Employment – Our thrift stores provide jobs, along with new job skills and advancement opportunities for our employees. Value – Our stores offer value to our customers - especially to those in difficult times. Because of their extremely discounted pricing, our thrift stores allow households with lower incomes to be able to afford quality items that they may be unable to purchase at other retail stores. Vogue – The SSVP Omaha thrift Stores are definitely in fashion and provide a fun place to shop for value and diversity. |
History of our Society of St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores
While the Omaha branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been active since 1868 (over 150 years of service!) it wasn't until the 1970s when the first SSVP Omaha Thrift Store opened in Benson. Since then, we have grown from one small shop into four full-sized stores across Omaha! However, our mission has always stayed the same: benefitting those in our community who
are in desperate need.
Now our scope is larger than ever.
By providing low-price, high-quality goods we offer a way for low-income families to get the essentials they need without breaking the bank. Beyond that, if families are still unable to afford these essentials, whether it be due to loss of job, or medical issues, our conferences and Vincentians can offer store vouchers to those struggling. This allows them to get these household essentials like mattresses, clothes, and furniture at no cost.
We plan to continue this legacy of compassion and service to the people of Omaha for many years to come.
